Our Standards

Good food.
Fair reviews.
No pretense.

Pull up a chair. THE DINING LEDGER approaches every meal with curiosity, a generous appetite and an independent mind. We celebrate what delights us, speak plainly about what falls short, and give both the food and the people behind it a fair hearing.

At our table

The meal comes first

A memorable bite. A thoughtful welcome. The pleasure of coming back. We pay attention to the whole meal, whether the table is dressed for an occasion or just right for a Tuesday.

Firsthand means firsthand

Our reviews begin with genuine visits: what we ordered, how we were welcomed and what stayed with us afterward. When other diners bring a useful perspective, we name the source and make clear that the experience is theirs. Their stories add context; they never become our memories.

A score with a clear basis

Our critic score is an independent judgment out of 100, with food carrying the most weight and hospitality, setting, value and consistency all getting their due. Google’s diner rating is a separate scale out of 5, shown only when verified. It never contributes to our score.

If a category cannot fairly be judged, we leave it out and proportionally rebalance the remaining weights, noting the limited coverage. A score stays provisional until the review has editorial approval.

Good judgment, never guesswork

Enthusiasm is welcome; invention is not. We check restaurant facts and give credit to reliable sources. A single diner’s account is one perspective, not a chorus of agreement. When the evidence leaves a question open, we leave it open too.

Every review gets a final look

Before a review reaches your table, the owner-editor reads it for accuracy, clarity and fairness, and gives the final approval to share it. Praise should be earned, criticism should be specific, and neither should lose sight of the people doing the work. Revisions get the same care.

Photography with a sense of place

A photograph should help you feel closer to the table. We use images we own or have permission to publish, and label illustrative images so they are not mistaken for a visit. The empty-table still life on our front page is an editorial illustration, not a scene from a restaurant we reviewed.

Corrections & contact

We take accuracy seriously. If you spot a factual error in a review — a wrong address, a dish described incorrectly, a detail that has changed — we want to hear about it. Every correction request is read by the owner-editor, checked against our notes, and, when warranted, the review is amended promptly. Substantive corrections are made openly; we do not quietly rewrite history.

Write to us at hello@ourdiningledger.com with the review title and the detail in question.
